Below you will find some examples of a possible dance tour to Romania. 

 

TOUR TO BRASOV - TRANSSYLVANIA 

Day 1 

  - Flight to Henri Coandă (former Otopeni), Bucharest. Transfer by touring-car to Brasov. 

    Seven overnight stays in a 3*** hotel 

Day 2 

  • Dancing-lessons* Visit to the memorial house of teacher Mr. Borcoman in the village of Rupea
  • In the village of Comana** visit to the workshop of woodcarvers, visit to the ethnographical village museum and performance by the local folklore group (famous boys' dances for girls, interpreters of old songs Ion Leluţiu and Emil Neamţu). Dancing-lessons and party together.

Day 3 

  • Dancing-lessons. Visit to the monastery of Sâmbăta de Sus, (a collection of icon paintings on glass).
  • In the village of Lisa visit to a workshop where all kinds of crafts related to wool-working were practised.
  • In the village of Drăguş: visit to the workshop of furrier Dumitru Sofonea. Children's group, dancing
  • In the village of Felmer meeting with a folklore group with wedding customs Furca de tors a miresii (distaff of the bride). Interpreters of old songs Mioara Cîrje and Ileana Socea.
  • Performance and dancing party together.

Day 4 

  • Dancing-lessons. In Poiana Braşov ride with the chair-lift to the top of the mountain Posăvarul (1801 m), beautiful view over the Carpatians.
  • Visit to the places of interest in the old city centre of Braşov, a.o. the 14th century black church (Buchholz-organ with 4000 pipes, the biggest Anatolian carpet collection in Europe), citadel from 1690, small mediaeval weapon-museum and weavers' bastion, town hall from 1420, museum for the first Romanian school, orthodox cathedral in Byzantine style with impressive frescos.

Day 5 

  • Dancing-lessons. Visit to the museum for ethnography and folklore in Braşov.
  • In the village of Dumbrăviţa: visit to the workshop of a smith, visit to the old church and a small ethnographic museum situatet in the tower of the church.
    Meeting with ensemble Dumbrăvioara (old customs, dances and songs) Performance and dancing- party together.

Day 6 

  • Dancing-lessons. Visit to the citadel in Râsnov, founded round 1225 by German Teutonian knights
  • Visit to the castle of Bran (14th century), residence of Vlad Ţepeş alias Dracula, and to the open-air museum. Performance by the professional ensemble Cerbul carpatin. Visit to the wine-cellars.

Day 7

          Dancing-lessons and special opportunity for dance notation and video-recording

  • Excursion to Prejmer: the best preserved fortified churh of Eastern-Europe, built by German knights (13th century), with walls of 12 m high and 4 m thick, 4 floors, the first Romanian appart.-building.
  • Meeting with the ensemble Măgura from Codlea (six generations of dancers).
  • Performance, dancing and farewell-party together.

Day 8 

  • Transfer by touring-car to Bucharest. Visit to the Peasants museum or Open-air museum.
  • Flight from Henri Coandă (former Otopeni), Bucharest.

*Dancing-lessons by Angela Drăguşin and Tănase Gheorghe, dances from South-Transsylvania and Muntenia.
The lessons include dances from the villages we visit, so that we can dance with the local people.
**In general the dancing-groups perform, followed by a shared party with music and dance.

PROGRAMME OF THE TOUR TO SUCEAVA

Day 1

  • Flight to Henri Coandă (former Otopeni), Bucharest.
  • Transfer by touring-car to Suceava. Seven overnight stays in a 3*** Hotel in het heart of the city.

Day 2 

  • Dancing-lessons* will take 200m from the hotel in the studios beloning to the professional ensemble.
  • Visit to the world famous painted monasteries Humor and Voroneţ (16th century).
  • Visit to the ethnographical museum for Folk-Customs in Gura Humorului.
  • Excursion to the village of Mănăstirea Humorului:
    Meeting with folklore groups Datina and Arcanul** of different generations dancers and musicians.
    Interpret of old songs Maria Macovei. Performance, dancing together and party.

Day 3 

  • Dancing-lessons.
  • Excursion to the village of Mălini: Visit to the memorial house of Nicolaie Labiş,
    Visit to the fortified church Slatina (16th century) with the tombs of king Alexandru Lăpuşneanu, meeting with the tradititional folklore group (old customs about the turn of the year): interprets of old songs (bards) Vasile Ungureanu and Vasile Mucea, lute-plaiers, flut-plaiers, brass band from Rădăşeni, performance and dancing-party together.

Day 4 

  • Dancing-lessons.
  • Visit to the places of interest in Suceava with:
    Visit to the local daily market, the ethnographical museum Hanul domnesc (the royal inn), the open-air museum of the Suceava district, the convent Sfintul Ioan (14th-16th century) and the citadel of Ştefan the Great, the royal court of the 16th century.
  • Rehearsal / performance by the proffesional ensemble Ciprian Porumbescu. Dancing together.

Day 5 

  • Dancing-lessons.
  • Excursion to the village of Marginea: visit to the workshops of potters of black pottery.
  • Visit ti the world-famous monasteries Suceviţa and Arbore (1503), mini-ethnographical museum.
  • Excursion to the willage of Iaslovăţ: Visit to the houses of the villagers (egg-painter, weaver) meeting with folklore groups of different generations from Iaslovăţ and Arbore.
  • Performance and party together with traditional meal.

Day 6

  • Dancing-lessons.
  • Excursion to the village of Stroieşti:
    Meeting with the local folklore group Fluieraşul: dance- and singing-group, interprets of old songs, flute-player Gabriel Amariei (fluier, caval, tilinca, ocarina, nai).
  • Performance, dancing together, singing and party.

Day 7 

  • Dancing-lessons and special opportunity for dance notation and video-recording.
  • Visit to the workshops of wood-carver Călin Dănilă and mask-maker Vasile Gherman.
  • Concert by Vasile Bădiliţă, the best flute-player in Bucovina.
  • Farwell party together with the ensemble Brăduleţul of the School for Folk Art.

Day 8 

  • Transfer bij touring-car to Bucharest. Visit to the Peasants museum or Open-air museum.
  • Flight from Henri Coandă (former Otopeni), Bucharest. .

*The dancing-lessons will be given by Costinel Leonte with dances from Bucovina and Moldavia
